Nearby or Internet?
Transferly uses the direct path when both native apps can see each other and keeps a relay fallback for everything else.
Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. When both Transferly devices are on the same local network, Nearby can discover them and transfer directly. When they are on different networks, create or join a temporary Internet session instead.
How do Internet transfers work?
A temporary Transferly relay session provides a Transfer ID, access code and share link. The other device can join by scanning the QR code, opening the link or entering the Transfer ID and access code.
How large can an Internet transfer be?
Internet Relay sessions are limited to 500 MB per file and 2 GB total per temporary session. Nearby transfers stay on the local Wi-Fi/LAN and do not use the Internet relay.
Can Android send directly to Windows?
Yes. The Android and Windows clients use the same Nearby protocol, so they can discover and transfer directly across the same local network.
Can I use Transferly without installing the app?
Yes for Internet sessions. The browser client at transfer.saltyy.at can join temporary sessions and upload or download files. Direct Nearby transfers require the native Android or Windows client.

You stay in control of what is accepted, with optional shortcuts for devices you trust.
Do incoming Nearby transfers need approval?
Yes by default. Transferly shows the sender and file information before the receiver accepts or declines the transfer.
What are trusted devices?
Recent devices can be marked as trusted. You can optionally enable automatic acceptance for a trusted device when you no longer want to confirm every incoming Nearby transfer manually.
Can Android receive while Transferly is closed?
Yes, when Receive in background is enabled. Android keeps Transferly ready with a foreground-service notification and can surface an incoming transfer notification for review.
Does Windows need to stay in the foreground?
No. The Windows client can stay available through its system-tray receive mode while you use other applications.

Transferly is designed around temporary transfers rather than a permanent cloud library.
Do I need a Transferly account?
No. Transferly does not require an account before you can send or receive files.
Do Nearby files go through the Internet relay?
No. Nearby transfers are made directly across the local network between the native Transferly clients. The relay is used for Internet sessions.
What Android version is required?
The current Android app supports Android 8.0 and newer.
What Windows version is required?
The current Windows client targets Windows 10 version 2004 or newer and Windows 11.
